Meet Your Eating Disorder Therapist: Why I’m Passionate About Food Freedom
Let me introduce myself—my name is Carianne D’Oriano, and I am a therapist specializing in eating disorders and body image. I am also a certified intuitive eating counselor. My passion for this work comes from my own journey of unlearning diet culture and embracing body acceptance. I know firsthand how challenging it can be, and I’m here to help others find freedom, peace, and self-compassion.
I graduated from The College of New Jersey with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and went on to earn two Master’s degrees in counseling from The University of Pennsylvania. Becoming a therapist was always my dream, and when I began working in the field, I found my true calling: helping clients heal their relationship with food and their bodies.
Through my work, I quickly realized how many people have a disordered relationship with food. Our society equates thinness with health, but the reality is that striving for thinness often leads to unhealthy behaviors. When I discovered Intuitive Eating, it was a transformative moment for me. It completely shifted my relationship with food from one filled with anxiety to one rooted in freedom and trust. That shift inspired my mission: to help others unlearn the toxic messages about food and their bodies and rediscover their ability to trust themselves.
In therapy, my focus is to guide clients toward letting go of diet culture and exploring new ways to define health—ways that don’t center on shrinking their bodies. Together, we’ll work on what health means to you, empowering you to make peace with food and embrace your body. Clients I’ve worked with have learned to decrease their anxiety around food, improve their body image, and cultivate a more compassionate relationship with themselves.
I believe in creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore these challenges and grow. My goal is to support you on your journey to food freedom and body acceptance, helping you move toward a life filled with peace and self-compassion.
